Who's the cutest girl around?

I am a mom of a cutie pie (very biased). And I wanted to share my experiences with others (including my cuties grandparents, great-grandparents, numerous uncles and other relatives). I love being a mom and can't imagine doing anything else.

Day +10

I get to fall asleep tonight in a beautifully decorated room. My dad and I went streamer and paint crazy after Livi fell asleep so she will wake to her first birthday suprise. I'm excited for her to see it.

Her blood pressure was much improved today. Not perfect but no where near the high numbers of yesterday. I'm so thankful. She had a pretty good day...rough moments but overall pretty good. The meds are being controlled a better and so her sleep is more peaceful and her nausea doesn't seem to be an issue. She has mucusitous but it seems to be staying the same (not getting worse). Her bottom is still raw but no worse.

I only took one photo today. Guess I just forgot. But here it is...Miss Alivia taking a bath. She wears this visor to keep the soap out of her eye and she wears Glad Press and Seal over her broviac to keep it dry. The tub is really small but perfect for her. She gets to be unhooked from all her tubes for that little bit each day and it is nice to see her without them.

I got all the info for those who want to be designated donors for Alivia. If you are A+ you can donate platelets and O+ you can donate red blood cells. I need your name as it appears on your drivers license and date of birth to get you signed up to be a designated donor. You can either donate at the Donor Center (670 Cherry Drive, Hershey) no appointment necassary, Monday through Friday 8-4 or at the Hospital Blood Bank (by appointment only...call 531-8232) Weds 5-7:45 or Sunday 8-3:45. You have to be on the list before you donate in order for Alivia to use it. If you just want to donate for the credit (any blood type other than A+ or O+) then go to your local donor center (not sure what to do outside PA but you could try) and say that you want the credit to go to Alivia Haughery at Hershey Medical Center.

We got a ton of cards today. It was fun for everyone reading them.
Thanks to....
The Camps
Matt, Viv, Nicholas and Hannah (cute photos...I think Hannah looks like you, Viv, when she smiles)
The Walsh's (loved the family photo)
The Kisic's (cute dog and it was great getting to show my in-laws who you were)
Aunt Marcy (loved the photo reenactment...you are the best)
The Rice's
Great Aunt Lisa (the famous GAL...call me about a visit)
Yoders (T-minus 2 days...)
Kathy McVicker (the toys were a huge hit. We raced the penguins)
The Plesnichers
Dick and Barbara White (loved the family photo)
Marge Lageman
Max and Laura Mohney
Grace and Samual (Livi laughed outloud when she saw the picture of you guys. She misses you like crazy. We hung one of the pics in her bed and each time she sees it she laughs. Giant Hugs from Mimi and Livi)
Jessica Bennett (I can't believe you bought the table for Livi...it is so sweet and exactly what I wanted. Thank you so much!)
The Wallworks (Alivia played the song in the book over and over and when she saw the picture of Erin she said "ern ( her version of Erin))
Dan and Deb VanHorn (Livi liked the cows)
Stella (you have gotten so much bigger since you were at our house)
Bill and Cynthia for the Tinker Bell toy. Livi really liked it (as you saw)
Scott and Ang- Loved seeing you tonight. Livi is going to love playing with the play dough toy. and the Dora candle was such a great idea (I was wondering what I would do for a candle) Love you guys.

We are saving all the packages to open tomorrow so it feels more birthday-ish. I will take lots of photos tomorrow and try to get a picture of the photo wall which has grown a whole lot.

Have a blast of a birthday celebration today!!!! Great idea with all the decorations.

In responsse to your thoughts of yesterday..I hear the anguish in your words. None of us, if in your shoes would be able to endure without (probably many)moments like you've had.
You are being forced to re-define "normal" for your family. You are having to endure what most people who've lived longer than yourselves have had to suffer. We read this morning (James, Jonathan and I) about Elijah. When there was no rain that caused a drought and famine, Elijah asked a poor women to give him something to eat. She only had enough flour and oil for one more meal for her and her son. She trusted the words of God's prophet and gave the little that she had and God supernaturally supplied her need. The jar of flour and jug of oil did not run out after that. God can do that for you and your family. The flour represents the bread of life (Jesus) and the oil represents the Holy Spirit.

Emily, you are giving others such a gift by recording your story in your blog. So many others have walked where you are walking but few (outsiders) know what it is really like. Someday your words will be able to comfort others. I personally am looking for a co-author for your future book.

Lots of love,

Aunt Anne

(PS Any troubles or inconveniences that I may encounter today I will offer up as a prayer for all of you.

That tub picture with the visor is just the cutest!!!
Who'da thunk a Glad Press and Seal could be used for a medical purpose? I think you should write the company and get free Glad products for life! And the Glad company would get a GREAT BIG bonus seeing the world's sweetest 2 year old modeling their product!
God bless all you guys today!

Still praying!

Hey guys, I hope you have a tremendous day today enjoying the gift of Alivia's life! I hope she has a very happy birthday!

Though it's nearly impossible to go what you are going through, its evident that God is helping you make the most of it, playing, decorating, loving... I bet the nurses love taking care of Livi and getting to know you, who wouldn't?

Psalm 138:7-8
Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life;
you stretch out your hand against the wrath of my enemies, and your right hand delivers me.
The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever.
Do not forsake the work of your hands.

emily- i remember coming to the hospital after church to see alivia and you and james the new proud parents. the love that you had for her before she was born was amazing to me and your excitment to be a mother was evident. your love for her has increased beyond measure as you care for her. my mom always stated that childrens birthdays are more a celebration for the parents than for the kids as the mom's were the ones who have labored and care for the children each year that passes. i know alivia will look back and see how you made her 2 birthday memorable for her! love you and praying for healing-jamie

I just caught up on the past few days. I know you are all so weary. I hope the mucositis is easier on her -- one thing that may help is "magic mouthwash." They gave it to me after transplant. It contains milk of magnesia, lydocaine, and possibly a few other ingredients and can be soothing. Lydocaine doesn't hold very long for me, but since she's little it may help. (Now of course I don't know if it's an option because she's little...our transplants have been almost identical as far as meds go, but I'm certainly no doctor.) I can't say the stuff tastes that great, but it's o.k. to swallow, so you wouldn't have to worry about that. I also found that sometimes just "sucking" on a warm, wet rag helped a little. I couldn't have morphine and the dilautid didn't help much.

Praying for you all the time. I have come to appreciate all the sacrifices my caregivers made to be by my side 24/7. You're doing an amazing job. Thank you for continuing to share your story with us.
